FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you need to know about our process, timing, and experience.
What does “made to measure” mean?
Made to measure means your garment is created specifically for you, using a standard pattern that’s adjusted to your body measurements, posture, and preferences. You’ll choose the fabric, cut, lining, buttons, and finishing details, and the suit is then produced to those specifications.
It’s a highly personalised process, without the time and cost of full bespoke tailoring.
What are the benefits of made to measure compared to off-the-rack?
The biggest difference is intent. Made to measure is designed around you, whereas off-the-rack is designed to fit as many people as possible.
With made to measure, you benefit from:
- A fit tailored to your body shape, posture, and proportions
- Greater comfort and freedom of movement
- Control over fabric, cut, and styling details
- A more balanced, refined silhouette
- Consistency across future garments once your profile is established
Rather than altering a finished product to “make it work,” made to measure allows the suit to be built correctly from the start — resulting in a garment that looks
better, feels better, and wears more naturally.
It’s also worth noting that many adjustments simply aren’t possible with
off-the-rack suits. Changes such as correcting posture, adjusting the first
button position to achieve proper torso proportions, or refining the shoulder
line are often limited or avoided entirely, as they can compromise the structure of the garment. In many cases, these alterations aren’t offered at all - particularly when a wearer sits between standard sizes.
What customisations can I make to my suit?
Made to measure allows for a high level of personalisation. You’ll be guided through choices such as:
- Fabric selection
- Jacket style, lapel shape, and structure
- Button stance and button materials
- Lining colours, patterns, and custom picture linings
- Pocket styles and detailing
- Trouser cut, waistband style, and finishing
- Personal touches such as monogramming
Our role is to help refine these options, so the final result feels intentional,
balanced, and true to how you’ll actually wear the suit.
Do you rent suits or sell off-the-rack garments?
No. The Tailors Lounge does not offer suit hire or off-the-rack suits.
Everything we create is made to measure and produced specifically for the individual. This allows us to maintain a consistent standard of fit, quality, and finish across all garments we make.
Do you only make suits for weddings?
Not at all. While we work with many wedding parties, The Tailors Lounge is built for anyone who needs a great suit— corporate professionals, event wear, and
those simply wanting to elevate their everyday wardrobe. Weddings are just one
part of what we do.
What products do you offer?
We specialise in made to measure suits and formalwear, alongside:
- Custom shirts
- Overcoats
- Shoes
- Accessories
Each piece is designed to work together as part of a refined, modern wardrobe.
Where are you located?
You’ll find us at 421 Swan Street, Richmond.
Our showroom is designed to feel more like a lounge than a traditional tailoring store — relaxed, welcoming, and intentionally unhurried.
What is your pricing?
Our wedding garments are fully made-to-measure, with pricing typically starting from $1,000 depending on the fabric, garment configuration and styling details selected.
Each appointment is guided personally through fabric selection, fit and styling in a relaxed showroom environment designed to make the experience feel enjoyable and approachable from start to finish.
Unlike off-the-rack suiting, where additional tailoring costs are often required after purchase, our garments are built specifically for you from the beginning. Pricing includes the majority of customisation options, along with all standard fitting adjustments and alterations throughout the process, ensuring the final garment is refined to your fit with no unexpected alteration costs along the way.
How long does the process take?
For corporate and everyday clients:
From the date we take your measurements, the typical turnaround is 5–6 weeks.
For wedding clients:
We recommend an initial free consultation 6–9 months out from the
wedding. This first visit is about information gathering, exploring options,
and planning timelines — not measuring.
Final measurements are usually taken closer to the date, with the final
fitting scheduled approximately one month before the wedding. This helps
reduce stress and allows adequate time to refine the fit if needed.
While we encourage this timeline, shorter lead times can often be accommodated — it’s always worth having a conversation.
What if some groomsmen are interstate or overseas?
This is very common. For groomsmen who can’t attend in person, we can coordinate remote measuring using detailed measurement guides and clear instructions. Where possible, we’ll also assist with aligning measurements through trusted local tailors interstate or overseas.
Once all measurements are received, we manage the process in-house to ensure consistency across the group.
Do you offer alterations?
Yes. We provide in-house refinements on garments made by The Tailors Lounge to ensure the final fit is exactly right.
We don’t offer alteration services for suits made elsewhere.
Do you work after hours and on weekends?
Yes. We understand that not everyone can attend appointments during standard business hours.
After-hours and weekend appointments are available by arrangement. We recommend booking in advance so we can ensure the space and time are set aside
for you.
Whatshould I expect at the consultation?
Your consultation is relaxed, personalised, and entirely pressure-free. We’ll spend time understanding your needs, lifestyle, and preferences — whether it’s for a wedding, corporate wardrobe, or personal style upgrade.
During the appointment:
- You’ll explore fabrics, colours, and styles in a hands-on way
- You can try on sample garments to see how different cuts and fabrics look on you, helping guide your decisions
- We’ll discuss cut, fit, and tailoring options
- We’ll guide you through the customisation choices available for your suit
- Measurements are usually discussed but may be scheduled for a later date, especially for weddings, to allow time for planning and decision-making
- You can enjoy our showroom amenities — lounge, bar, pool table, chess, and more — while we guide you through the process
By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of the timeline, options, pricing, and next steps, leaving you confident about the suit we’ll create for you.
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are recommended so we can give you our full attention, particularly for
consultations and fittings. Walk-ins are welcome when availability allows, but
booking ahead ensures the best experience.
Is the consultation free?
Yes. Our consultations are complimentary and designed to be informative, relaxed, and pressure-free — giving you the clarity you need to make confident decisions
when the time is right.
